The Social Media Guru

This candidate will show significant strength in organic social media content "live" content. While the proficiency in these categories is very impressive to upper management, it rarely shows any promise with the other areas of performance.

  1. Strategy/Planning: Low to non-existent
  2. Management/Execution: Low to non-existent
  3. Technology/Skills: High knowledge in their specific area of expertise, little to no knowledge of other areas of technology or skills 
  4. Measurement/Adaptation: Very Little outside of area of expertise
  5. Cost: Average Salary Varies but Market but $25,000-$35,000 per year plus benefits. Monthly cost with benefits:  Approximately $3,500-$5,500 per month
Marketing Manager - frustrated staff

The Marketing/Sales Manager

This candidate will show significant strength in strategic management, budgeting, and overall general management of marketing initiatives. While the proficiency in these areas will help to set the stage for growth and performance, most execution, technology, and skill action items will need to be outsourced or performed by additional employees.

  2. Management/Execution: Medium to High
  3. Technology/Skills: Low to "no"
  4. Measurement/Adaptation: Can process the data and compare it to the strategy/plan but will have very little knowledge in obtaining the information or the technical set-up of analytics and performance measurement.  
  5. Cost: Average Salary Varies but Market but $55,000-$85,000 per year plus benefits

HTML, JavaScript, Web Dev, Database integration will be the focus of these candidates' efforts. 15 years ago this staff member could overcome other budgeting and staffing shortfalls by making your website stand out in the crowd. While a great website is important today, it takes a team of specialists in design, development, search engine optimization, and analytics to make a website work.

The "Technologist"

This candidate will be well versed in communicating experience on all of the major topics discussed. This candidate may have sold for a marketing agency or technology company in the past and understands enough to "close the sale" but has very little practical experience with implementation. This candidate understands how it all works together but can't make one piece of the puzzle actually function.

This candidate is most likely a mid-career professional that was trained on print and graphic design and spent most of their career adapting to the digital changes. While work ethic and performance will be high, the ability to assimilate newer technologies and combine strategies will be low. Also, the concept of measurement and analytics will be somewhat foreign to them based on historic experience with traditional marketing concepts of performance evaluation prior to the digital era.
